apps students

Since mobile phones became a part of our lives, the apps that run on our devices have become very necessary to execute daily activities. Almost every student has a smartphone (some actually don’t, can you believe it?). Phones are used to stay in touch with friends and family and to carry out basic everyday tasks. We have put together a list of 5 apps which we believe that every student should have on their phones for productivity in the university.

1. WhatsApp

You might have probably heard about the largest and most popular messaging app on the planet. Students use WhatsApp to stay in touch with each other and also to find out what is happening in the lives of their friends. WhatsApp allows you to send messages as well as other media elements such as images, PDF, videos and audio files to friends. Many of the groups on campus such as religious groups, faculty members, hostel mates etc have a WhatsApp groups which they use to share information so it would be a good idea to get on board.

2. Google Docs

Apart from Microsoft Word, it would be best for students to use Google Docs which is a word processing app that allows you to view, edit, type and share assignments and projects from your phone. The best part is that it is a cloud application so all your work is stored online and can be accessed at will with an internet connection. So even if your laptop crashes (It’s never a nice feeling) you will not lose your data. You can also download your documents as PDF or even Microsoft Word formats. Sharing the documents and simultaneously collaborating with other classmates is also a breeze with Google Docs

3. Uber

If you are in a University in Accra or Kumasi then you can take advantage of Uber, a ride-sharing app that allows you to call for affordable rides from your mobile phone. Drivers will get your location and will use the GPS on their mobile phones to locate and pick you up. The cars are normally very comfortable and air-conditioned and even if you do not know where you are headed to, once it can be found on Google Maps then you can easily be directed via your GPS. Payments are based on the distance and the duration of your trip so it sort of gives you value for money. Students normally use it to get around safely and quickly. If you have a car, you can register as a driver and earn some extra money.

4. Pocket

Pocket helps you to bookmark the Internet. It can be integrated into your web browser so that when you are surfing the web while working on your assignments and doing research you can always pocket that page and view it at any time. If you do not have time to read an article you can always have it read to you through the Pocket app. Pretty cool right?
