One of the first things that babies crave for is a hug and a kiss from their parents. I guess it’s in our makeup as humans. Hugs have a special effect on everyone once it’s genuine and from the heart. The skin, after all, is a sensory organ and a simple hug can travel to the heart of a person’s soul. There are some people who are against certain types of hugs and there’s a good reason for that but here are 5 reasons why everyone needs a hug in their day.
1. It communicates love
Everyone wants to be loved. Hugging is a genuine way of communicating your love and affection for someone. Hugs are more intimate than regular handshakes so they are normally reserved for close acquaintances like close friends, spouses or family. Show your love with a hug.
2. It reduces stress
Life has a way of stressing us out. You could be a student, worker, parent, spouse etc. Whatever you do, you will get stressed out over time so it’s nice to share a hug with a friend at work or even a classmate to help reduce the stress. The good thing is that one hug can work for both of you. Hugs relax the muscles causing a comforting effect.
3. It boosts your immune system
Having a stress free life naturally boosts your immune system. Most illnesses that plague man have their root cause to be depression and stress. A healthy mind leads to a healthy body.
4. Makes you feel like you belong
The popular Bible story about the prodigal son shows how hugging gives us a sense of belonging.
Luke 15:20 “And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.”
Hugs are a good way to end conflicts and show that you are at peace with each other.
5. Reduces Anxiety
Anxiety does not add anything to our lives apart from stress and uneasiness. Hugs can reduce anxiety and give you an assurance that everything is going to be all right.
If you haven’t shared a hug with a loved one today than please do. It will do both of you a lot of good.
