Residents of Ayeduase-Kotei a suburb of Kumasi were awoken to a smokey Friday morning as fire engulfed the cemetery next to the Nyame Mireku Hostel off the Kotei Ayeduase road.
The fire engulfed the weeds which had overgrown on the cemetery land and produced large amounts of soot which had filled the whole atmosphere.
The Ghana National Fire Service arrived hours later at the scene after a resident had called them. The fire was kept under control by the well equipped fire service personnel. There were no casualties.
The main cause of the fire isn’t known but some residents claimed to have seen a group of young men smoking ‘wee’ in the cemetery at dawn and suspected that they had started the fire through their activities.
