KNUST to construct 4000 room alumni hostel

For years now, students of KNUST have had to move out of campus after their first year due to a lack of hostels on campus to accommodate the over 40,000 students that pursue a degree program. This tradition is set to change with the sod cutting of a 4000 room Alumni hostel by the Chancellor of the Unversity, The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The project is estimated to cost about $70 million and should be completed within months according to Nana Freduah Agyeman, the managing director of Safi Properties limited, the construction firm handling this hostel project. The hostel is designed to have 9 floors and all the modern requirements of a hostel. We hope they add a functioning elevator.alum hostel

With KNUST hostels and their prices, most people assume that the new hostel will be affordable to the average student.

The hostel is christened KNUST Alumni hostel and it is part of activities to mark the 20th anniversary of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who doubles as Chancellor of KNUST. The massive hostel project is expected to ease the accommodation problem that has troubled the University over the years. What do you think about the Alumni Hostel project? Will it really ease the congestion problem in KNUST? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
