The brief hiatus in academic work at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has finally come to an end. The agreed upon KNUST reopening date has been set to Friday, 16th November 2018. Students are required to report on campus to their respective halls or hostels. Academic work will begin on Monday, 19th November 2018.
The decision was arrived at after a meeting with the Ashanti Regional Security Council and the Governing Council of KNUST. The meeting was chaired by the Vice Chancellor, The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The University had to shut down its operations and send students home due to an issue of manhandling of a student by the KNUST security. The SRC led a demonstration which was intended to be peaceful but emotions got heightened and it turned into a riot. Property worth about GHC1.7 million was vandalized by the mob of angry students.
