Scholarships and grants for students in Ghana

Tertiary education in Ghana is not affordable for most Ghanaians but thankfully there are some scholarships that undergraduate and postgraduate students in Ghana can take advantage of. Most scholarships cover tuition only but there are a few that could even cover your hostel fees as well. We are going to take a look at some of the KNUST scholarships and other scholarship opportunities for Ghanaian students and how you can take advantage of them. Edu Fondazione Scholarship 2018/2019

KNUST has collaborated with Edu Fondazione to offer scholarships to needy but brilliant students KNUST to help them cover their tuition and other expenses. Apply here

Eligibility:

  • Continuing students – Beneficiaries on this scholarship are advised to renew their application
  • Freshers – You must be Ghanaian and pursuing a full-time programme in KNUST.
  • Applicants must be Ghanaian Regular students
  • Applicants should not be a beneficiary of another Scholarship scheme at the time of application.

Requirements:

Prospective Applicants are to include the following documents;

  • Admission Letter
  • Acceptance Letter
  • WASSCE Certificate
  • High School Transcripts or All Terminal Reports
  • Recommendation Letters
  • Awards and Certificates (If Any)
  • All Applicants should provide proof of need

Educational Pathways International Scholarships for 2018/2019

Educational Pathways International has teamed up with KNUST to offer scholarships to very brilliant but needy students of KNUST. This is a scholarship for KNUST students only.

Eligibility:

The Scholarship is opened to both continuing (2nd and 3rd years) and fresh students who are pursuing a full-time programme.

  • Applicants must be Ghanaian Regular students.
  • Applicants should not be a beneficiary of another Scholarship scheme at the time of application

Requirements:

Applicants must have a minimum grade of Second Class Upper and first-year applicants should have WASSCE result /aggregate of at least Nine (9).

Prospective applicants are to include the following documents in their applications:

  • Admission Letter
  • Acceptance Letter
  • WASSCE Certificate
  • High School Transcripts or all Terminal reports for the whole duration for SHS
  • Recommendation letters and other awards or certificates (if any)
  • Prospective continuing student applicants should also add their complete University Academic Transcripts, (including current – Second Semester results)

African Researchers’ Small Grants Program (SGP II)

African Researchers’ Small Grants Program (SGP II)

The African Research Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ARNTD) with support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and UK aid from the UK government, through the Coalition for Operational Research on Neglected Tropical Diseases (COR-NTD), is seeking proposals for both operational and social science research on ‘’Emerging Challenges facing NTD program implementation in Africa.’’ This second edition of the Small Grants Program (SGP II) is to support African researchers in both early and mid/late career to undertake operational research aligned with the goals established in the London Declaration on Neglected Tropical Diseases. SGP II is comprised of two small grant funding tracks.

Eligibility:

A. Small grants for junior researchers

B. Small grants for mid-career and/or senior researchers.

As you can see, this is a scholarship for postgraduate students in Ghana.

GEAAA Dr. Osei Kwabena Gyebi Scholarship Fund 2018

The GEAAA gives out scholarships each year to individuals who implement innovations that provide practical solutions to technological problems pertaining to Africa, as well as contribute to its economic growth & quality of life. Even if you are not a student, you can apply for this scholarship which will be given in the form of a grant. The intent the GEAAA is to encourage persons of African descent in general and of Ghanaian descent, in particular, to harness their innovative talents to enhance the quality of life & economic growth of Africa through new and/or existing technology.

Value of award

  • Students:  US$ 500
  • Non-Students:  US$ 1,000

Eligibility:

  1. Be of African Descent (Higher priority is given to applicants of Ghanaian descent)
  2. Be a University or Polytechnic Student (enrolled or admitted), Researcher, Artisan
  3. Have a current or prospective career or research interest in science and/or technology including, but not limited to, any of the following areas:
  • Agriculture – mass & year-round production techniques including irrigation, rain harvesting or cloud seeding to augment precipitation
  • Mechanical Engineering – equipment, machinery, tools
  • Energy, including renewable energy
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering – clean water supply, sanitary / wastewater treatment, transportation, infrastructure
  • Information Technology and Communication
  • Bio Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Architecture /City/Town Planning – affordable housing techniques
  • Sciences & other Allied Professions
  • Other Technological Contributions

Requirements:

  1. Complete Application Form
  2. Narrative (Not more than 500 words) A description of research, career or other interest as it contributes to the goals of the Scholarship Fund.
  • Student Applicants: Explain your professional goals and how your interest in the sciences, mathematics, engineering or architecture will contribute towards practical solutions to any particular technological challenge facing Ghana in particular and/or Africa in general.
  • Non-Student Applicants: Explain concisely how the outcome of your proposed research or work will be beneficial to the Ghanaian society, its potential for improving the quality of life of Ghanaians and/or its contribution towards the economic growth of Ghana and Africa. Include a detailed statement indicating how the Funds will be utilized as well as a timeline for the milestone expected to be achieved through the use of the Funds
  1. Resume /Curriculum Vitae

In not more than 2 pages indicate the following:

  • Education (University, Secondary, Technical Schools attended & degrees/diploma or other certificate received if any)
  • Professional or other Certification received, or honours awarded
  • Professional Associations/Affiliations
  • Work Experience
  • Technical Publications and/or work, if any
  1. Academic Transcripts or Proof of Admission, if a student
  2. A Letter of Recommendation from an individual in a supervisory position.
  3. For non-student applicants, the Fund is given in a form of a grant. Provide a proposed Budget and Justification

2018 GEAAA Prof. Nicholas Kumapley Scholarship Fund

The Scholarship Award was created to honour the legacy of the Late Professor Nicholas Kumapley of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.

He made great contributions in teaching and mentoring students and young professionals who pursue engineering and science as a profession.

The scholarship awards are given by GEAAA annually to engineering, architectural and mathematics/science students who demonstrate excellent academic performance/innovation. The goal is to encourage Ghanaian students worldwide to pursue academic careers in Engineering, Architecture, Science, Mathematics & Technology to help improve the quality of life & economic growth of Africa.

Value of scholarship:

US$ 200 to U$500

Eligibility:

  1. Be a University or Polytechnic Student (Undergraduate or Post-Graduate) with a major in Engineering, Architecture, Science or Mathematics
  2. Must demonstrate high academic achievement in Engineering, Architecture, or Mathematics/Science
  3. Be planning a career in Engineering, Architecture or Mathematics/Science
  4. Must demonstrate a strong interest in developing concepts that contribute towards solutions to technological challenges in Africa.

Requirements:

  1. Complete attached Application Form
  2. Narrative/Essay (350-400 words) A description of research, or other interest as it contributes to the goals of the Scholarship Fund. Explain what motivated you to choose a career path in Engineering, Architecture or Mathematics/Science
  3. Resume /Curriculum Vitae

In not more than 1 page indicate the following:

  • Education (University, Secondary, Technical Schools attended & degrees/diploma or other certificate received if any)
  • Professional or other Certification received, or honours awarded, if any
